Captivating Corfe

Crowned by striking castle ruins, to say that the village of Corfe is picturesque would be and understatement. It’s stunning.

The one thousand-year-old royal castle is one of Britain’s most iconic and evocative survivors of the English Civil War, although it was partially demolished in 1646 by the Parliamentarians. It was also the inspiration for Kirrin Castle in Enid Blyton’s Famous Five books. Today, the National Trust invite you to explore its fallen walls and secret places, spot ‘murder holes’, learn tales of treachery and treason and treat you to breathtaking views across Purbeck.

If you have bundles of energy, it is possible to walk from Burnbake on to the top of Challow Hill and then on to Corfe enjoying magnificent views of Poole Harbour along the way. Doubtless, once you arrive will be ready to take refreshment in one of village hostelries or charming tea rooms.
